Renewal.

What is held, what is returned, and what colleagues may expect. Reprinted unchanged at the request of colleagues.

Continuance of position

Colleagues sometimes ask what happens to their role during renewal. Nothing happens to it. Your rank, your address and your entitlements are held exactly as you left them and returned to you in full. You will not be asked to reapply. You will not be asked to re-interview.

Your colleagues will be told that you have been away, which is true. Most find that the question does not come up. Providence is a kind town and colleagues here are not in the habit of pressing one another.

Personal effects

Effects in your desk are boxed by Facilities and returned to you. Items in your home are not disturbed. Anything you were carrying is logged at the clinic and returned with you.

Communications is occasionally asked about notes, correspondence and work in progress. The honest answer is that these are difficult to return, and that most colleagues find afterwards that they did not need them.

The procedure

The procedure itself is short and colleagues report it as restful. There is a pleasant interval which most describe as a dream, and which the clinic does not attempt to characterise further. Colleagues wake at their desk, in good health, having rested.

There is no discomfort. There has never been a case of discomfort. Colleagues who have heard otherwise are asked to consider the source.

Form 12

You will complete an intake form on return. This is administrative and takes a few minutes. Colleagues occasionally remark that the form feels familiar; this is normal, and the clinic regards it as a good sign.

Form 12 is listed in the appendix with every other colleague form. The form index →

Colleagues who have been renewed more than once may find this section familiar. It is reprinted unchanged each year, at the request of colleagues.

Questions

Colleagues with questions about renewal should speak to their line manager, or to the clinic, or to anyone at all. There is nothing here that cannot be discussed openly, and colleagues are encouraged to do so.
